How to Stay Motivated to Workout All Year Long
Do you want to get in better shape, but just can’t seem to commit to a fitness routine? It’s easy to find an excuse to skip a work out – it’s boring, too challenging, or you simply don’t have enough time. A little accountability, some goal setting and better planning can help make fitness part of your daily life.
Here are some tips to help you reach your fitness goals and maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.
Pay for classes or training
Sign up and prepay for a series of classes or personal training. You are much more likely to attend once you have paid a fee.
Commit to a race or event
Whether you like to walk, run, bike, or swim there is an event for you. When you commit to a race, you’ll need to train for it accordingly.
Make it fun
Pick an activity that you enjoy, and you’ll be much more likely to commit. Love volleyball or basketball? Join a league. Enjoy dancing or yoga? Take some new classes.
Change things up
They say variety is the spice of life, so change your workouts regularly. If your fitness routine feels stale, try a new class or type of workout to keep you interested. As a bonus, you’ll work different muscles with different exercises.
Don’t ignore lingering pain
Does something always hurt when you start exercising? If pain is holding you back or keeping you from an active lifestyle, contact us for help! Our team will find the root of your problem and provide one on one treatment plans to ensure the correct road to recovery. Remember, we do not require a prescription or referral to be seen at our facility.
Make it convenient
Your workout should be convenient for you and fit your lifestyle. If you have to find a babysitter or drive 30 minutes to work out, then you should find a better alternative.
Schedule your workout time
Put your workout on your calendar and treat it as you would any other important meeting. You wouldn’t cancel a meeting with your boss or a client, so don’t cancel a meeting with the gym!
Make a playlist
Music can be a powerful motivator. Make a list of songs that will keep you energized and entertained as you exercise. Get pumped with this list of 100 cardio songs.
Write your goals down
What do you hope to gain from exercising regularly? Do you want to lose weight, have more energy, or increase strength? Write your goals down and keep them somewhere that you’ll regularly see them.
Track your workouts
Wear a fitness tracker
A fitness tracker such as FitBit will keep track of your daily activity level (steps, flights of stairs, calories burned, etc.). You’ll be motivated to hit your daily fitness goals and can analyze your activity level over time.
Put your fitness gear where you will see it
Do you prefer to workout at home? Keep your hand weights, yoga mat and sneakers in a spot where you’ll regularly see them. Leave your exercise clothes out for a visual cue to get up and workout first thing in the morning.
Find a buddy
A family member or fitness friend can provide encouragement and accountability. It’s hard to skip a workout when you have someone counting on you to exercise with them.
Give yourself a reward after reaching a significant fitness milestone. Buy a new pair of shoes, treat yourself to fancy dinner, or get some stylish new fitness apparel.
A new workout routine is a major commitment. Set yourself up for success with the right fitness plan and support system to help you reach your goals.
